As the season quickly approaches, it’s important that your home is ready for whatever it may bring. Save yourself from getting caught in a storm of problems by following these simple do-it-yourself tips to ensure you are ready for whatever happens:
1. Clean your gutters: During Fall, leaves and other debris accumulate in your gutters and will prevent them from performing properly, therefore causing damage to the siding of your home and landscape.
2. Check your heating system: Perform a survey of your home’s heating vents and check to see that they are not blocked or covered by anything (furniture, carpeting, etc). Dust all of your vents and clean or replace any filters that appear damaged or dirty.
3. Keep the heat inside: Use a door sealer that slides onto the bottom of your doors and will seal the doors inside and out. Replace the weather stripping around your door frames if it is more than two years old.
In addition, we suggest talking to your agent soon and see what you may be missing from your current policy, as homeowners insurance can sometimes lack certain protection from winter storm damage.
